Baengmagoji, located in Sanmyeong-ri, Cheorwon-eup, Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon-do, was a battlefield during the Korean War. Now, a monument and exhibition hall have been built to commemorate the spirit of patriotism and vengeful spirits who sacrificed their lives for the country and to teach their descendants the victory and lessons of the battlefield of Baengmagoji.
The Baengmagoji Exhibition Hall recreates the scene of a fierce battle, being divided largely into three parts: “A Place of Remembrance,” “A Place of Retrospection,” “A Place of Determination.” A 22.5-meter monument was built to commemorate the souls of our ancestors who died in the battlefield of Baengmagoji.
A memorial monument and an incense altar to commemorate the deceased are located in “A Place of Retrospection.” “A Place of Remembrance” displays a memorial monument commemorating the desire for unification and the victory of the war, as well as the relics of General Kim Jong-oh, commander of the Baengma unit at that time. “A Place of Determination” is home to the Bell of Freedom along with an observatory.
